NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health & Safety
Start Date: Monday 17th January 3 hours per session commencing 1800hrs
Length of course: 35 weeks
Exams: September 2011
Location: Wakefield

Who should attend the course?
The NEBOSH National Construction Certificate provides an excellent foundation for health and safety. It is aimed at Managers, supervisors and CDM co-ordinators within the construction industry who are required to ensure that activities under their control are carried out safely. It is also suitable for people who are wishing to progress in to a career as a health and safety professional.

Is the qualification recognised?
The NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health & Safety meets the academic requirements for Technical membership (TechIOSH) of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and Associate membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

Aim and Objectives
On completion of the training persons attending will have the skills and knowledge to identify procedures and system within their organisation to minimise the risk to persons within the organisation and the skills to develop safe working procedures.

The NEBOSH National Construction Certificate covers the Health & Safety at Work Act and all other associated legal requirements relating construction work including the revised Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.It covers the identification and control of construction workplace hazards, and the practical application of this knowledge. No previous health and safety knowledge is required although it is advisable that candidates do have an understanding of the basic practical aspects of the construction industry.

Managers, supervisors and staff from all types of organisations who need a broad understanding of health and safety issues and help them manage risks effectively. Many people take the NEBOSH National General Certificate as a first step in a career in health and safety. It provides a valuable overview, and is a sound basis for further professional study.

The NEBOSH National General Certificate covers the legal requirements for health and safety in the UK, identification and control of workplace hazards, it also covers the practical application of this knowledge through inspection of a workplace followed by a report.

ABRASIVE WHEELS
DURATION: Half Day
TARGET GROUP: This course is designed for any person who may be required to use an abrasive wheel in the workplace or requires familiarisation with the associated regulations. Delegates will leave with a thorough understanding of the hazards associated with the use of abrasive wheels and to comply with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) in the safe mounting of abrasive wheels and discs on portable machinery.


MANUAL HANDLING
DURATION: Half Day
TARGET GROUP: This course is designed to provide delegates with a thorough understanding of how to minimise the risk of injury to themselves and others by increasing awareness of potential manual handling hazards in the workplace and their outcomes.

CCNSG PASSPORT TO SAFETY
DURATION: 2 Days
TARGET GROUP: The CCNSG Safety Passport Progamme provides essential training to all site personnel to ensure that they have a basic understanding and knowledge of health and safety, after appropriate site induction, to work on-site more safely with lower risk to themselves and others. There is an additional day for Supervisors, outlining the key role that Supervisors have in securing health and safety in the workplace.


CITB SITE SUPERVISOR SAFETY TRAINING SCHEME
DURATION: 2 Days
TARGET GROUP: This course is for first line managers - those who have, or are about to acquire supervisory responsibilities. It provides an introduction to health and safety, welfare and environmental issues for those requiring an understanding of their legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities. It will provide a sound knowledge base to enable them to give valuable assistance in safely managing a construction site.

With effect from 1 January 2010, UKCG member companies require that ALL supervisors working on their sites can demonstrate that they have the necessary knowledge and skills to supervise their workers effectively. This is essential if they are to ensure those workers carry out their tasks safely and with due regard to health.



CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme
DURATION: 5 days (block or day release)
TARGET GROUP: this course is intended for project managers, site managers and supervisors as well as proprietors of small to medium sized companies. Client-based personnel would also benefit from attending the course. Possession of this qualification is listed in the Approved Code of Practice for the Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations as a demonstration of competence in the role of site manager.

CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme – Refresher
DURATION: 2 Days
TARGET GROUP: This course is intended for those who currently hold a valid Site Management Safety Training Scheme Certificate. The certificate has to be renewed every 5 years by attending the SMSTS refresher course.
